The World According to Adam
tells two parallel stories that gradually mirror and intertwine with one another.
The first follows Adam, a celebrated Czech musician and aging icon, who returns to Slovakia after many years for the premiere of a musical based on his story and songs. Hoping to leave behind a meaningful artistic legacy and pay tribute to his homeland, he instead discovers that his deeply personal work has been transformed into a kitschy spectacle serving marketing and political interests. During a heated confrontation with the theatre’s management, Adam suffers a heart attack.
From that moment, the film moves into his subconscious, where an idealized version of the musical begins to unfold.
Inspired by a story Adam’s grandfather once told him, the dream follows the villagers of Zlatý Vrch as they unite to stop a gold mining project that threatens their home and the surrounding nature. Alongside Grandfather Sadenica, young Adam—the last young man left in the village—and his secret love Adela, the story becomes a modern fairy tale about a disappearing rural world, the conflict between greed and nature,
and the universal search for belonging, love and redemption.
